Its Easter Celebration Time
Celebrated as the most important festival of the Christian calendar,
Easter is the commemoration of Jesus's death and his rising from
the dead, also termed as the resurrection.
Easter or Resurrection Sunday is the day Christians celebrate the
resurrection of Jesus the Christ from the dead. Even before theologians
explained the death of Jesus in terms of various atonement theories,
the early church saw his resurrection as the central witness to
a new act of God in history and the victory of God in vindicating
Jesus as the Messiah.
Easter marks the end of the Lenten season, Lenten is a forty-six-day
period starts on Ash Wednesday and ends with Easter. The Lenten
season itself comprises forty days, as the six Sundays in Lent are
not actually a part of Lent.
Sundays are considered as memorials of Easter Sunday and are excluded
from the Lenten fast. The Lenten season is a period of penitence
in preparation for the highest festival of the church year, Easter.
The story behind Easter
There is an interesting story behind Easter, according to the Bible
Mary Magdalene went to the tomb, followed later by some of Jesus'
disciples. What they observed their proved Jesus as Messiah. The
tomb containing Jesus’s body was empty.
Jesus then appeared to Mary and many of his disciples, speaking
with them on separate occasions during the following forty days.
As he left them for the last time, Jesus promised to send the Holy
Spirit so the disciples would know God would never leave them. He
then ascended into heaven.
The Easter day
The date of Easter keeps on changing as it is based on lunar calendar.
As per the churches of the West Easter is observed on the first
Sunday following the full moon that occurs on or following the spring
equinox (March 2I). So Easter became a "movable" feast
which can occur as on or after March 21st.
Easter Tradition
Traditions associated with the festival survive in the Easter rabbit,
a symbol of fertility, and in colored Easter eggs, originally painted
with bright colors to represent the sunlight of spring, and used
in Easter-egg rolling contests or given as gifts.
The Easter Prayer
God, who for our redemption gave your only begotten Son to death
on the Cross, and by his glorious resurrection has delivered us
from the power of our enemy: Grant that we who celebrate with joy
the day of our Lord’s resurrection, may be raised from the
death of sin by your life-giving Spirit. Grant us so to die daily
to sin, that we may evermore live with him in the joy of his resurrection,
empowered and transformed by your grace in and among us.
O Lord, so stir up in your church, indeed in each of us, that Spirit
of adoption and reconciliation that is made possible by your grace
revealed in Jesus the Christ, that we being renewed in both body
and mind, may worship and serve you in sincerity and truth. We pray
this in the name of the same Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and
reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
